PRIVACY POLICY

HalalEats SG is an independent food companion for Singapore. This page explains what information we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and your rights.

WHAT WE COLLECT

  • Chat messages — Your questions and the app's replies are stored so your conversation can be restored if you reload the page. Messages are linked to an anonymous session cookie, not your identity.
  • Location data — If you grant location permission, we use your GPS coordinates to find halal places near you. Coordinates are sent with your chat request and are not stored beyond that request.
  • Postal code — If you type a postal code instead of sharing GPS, it is saved in your browser's local storage only and never sent to our servers unless you submit a query that requires it.
  • Saved items — Venues you bookmark are stored against an anonymous cookie identifier.
  • Anonymous session ID — A cookie (hes_anon) identifies your session so chat history and bookmarks persist across visits. It contains no personal information.

WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT

  • We do not require you to create an account or provide an email address.
  • We do not sell, share, or rent your data to any third party.
  • We do not use your data to serve advertising.
  • We do not track you across other websites.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

  • Groq / AI inference — Your chat messages are processed by Groq's API to generate responses. Groq's privacy policy governs how they handle API data.
  • Google Places — Venue photos, ratings, and reviews shown in the app are fetched from the Google Places API. No personal data is sent.
  • OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) — Area and postal code lookups use the SLA OneMap API. No personal data is sent beyond the location string you provide.
  • Railway — Our servers and database run on Railway's infrastructure, hosted in a data centre that may be located outside Singapore.

DATA RETENTION

Chat history is retained for a reasonable period to support session continuity and is periodically purged. Anonymous session cookies expire after 365 days of inactivity. You can clear your local data at any time by clearing your browser cookies and local storage.

CHILDREN

HalalEats SG is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
